Murray co-founders Jim Milton and Joe Murray have been awarded life fellowship of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) celebrating nearly forty years at the helm of Ireland’s leading PR consultancy.
The two long-standing members were presented with their life fellowship scrolls at the institute’s annual Christmas lunch, which was held in La Stampa Dawson Street. The presentations were made in a room full of Ireland’s leading PR practitioners, many of whom had begun their career at Murray’s.
Company Chairman, Joe Murray established Murray in 1974. He was joined in the new venture by Jim Milton. Joe had previously been business editor of both the Irish Press and the Sunday Independent. Jim Milton, still a Director of Murrays, was one of the first editors of Business & Finance.
Presenting the awards to Joe and Jim, Padraig McKeon spoke of his first six years in the PR industry, which he spent working with Joe Murray. He indicated that the professionalism which Joe brought to the business was based on an attention to detail and to getting even the smallest things right. In her remarks, Ita Gibney, also a Murray’s alumni, listed the many senior PR professionals who had begun their careers and forged their expertise working with Joe and Jim, the list reading like a Who’s Who of Irish PR.
Accepting their awards, both Joe and Jim stressed the importance of family in building the business for the last forty years and in particular their wives Maire and Carmel. Both indicated that the baton had been passed on to a next generation under new Managing Director, Pat Walsh. This new generation is “based on the same standards of professionalism that we have built in Murray over the decades.”
