NBI has completed build works to 80% of all premises in the NBP Intervention Area, placing the main infrastructure rollout firmly on track to be completed by the end of next year.

Additionally, approx. 157,000 (156,959) homes, farms and businesses are now connected to the network. As the National Broadband Plan rollout nears completion, take-up rates continue to grow. In many areas where the network has been live for longer, take-up already surpasses 60%, reflecting strong national appetite for world-class fibre connectivity. 

High-speed connectivity is supporting the expansion of remote and hybrid work, improving access to healthcare and public services, and enabling stronger regional economic growth.

NBI also confirmed that the NBP is expected to be delivered within the capped State subsidy envelope of €2.6 billion, set at contract signing in 2019. With the remaining 20% of network construction already contracted and underway, the company has high confidence that the project will finish on schedule and within budget. While general inflation in Ireland has risen by 22.5% since the project commenced, NBI has limited cost inflation on the project to just 8%.

High-speed fibre is helping families access education and healthcare remotely, supporting small businesses to grow, and allowing more people to work locally. It is ensuring that rural areas can compete on an equal footing with our cities.  

“This major national infrastructure project is on track, on schedule and within its original budget, a significant achievement that reflects the Government’s long-term commitment to digital investment and the strong partnership we have built with NBI. By the end of next year, Ireland will have one of the most advanced rural fibre networks anywhere in the world, leaving a legacy for communities for decades to come.”

The momentum behind the rollout is stronger than ever, and the levels of take-up we are seeing show just how much high-speed fibre is needed right across rural Ireland.  

“Our focus is now firmly on completing the remaining 20% of the build by the end of next year, including approximately 30,000 additional premises that have been added to the rollout. The disciplined approach we’ve taken, both in managing costs and in planning the rollout, means we are on track to deliver this national programme within the original capped subsidy, despite considerable inflation in the wider economy since we first began construction.”
